Batch Fermentation and Bio-Reactor Laboratories

ILS products and services target research and development fermentation and bio-reactor laboratories.   Laboratories that include flexible automation and integrated data storage and reporting significantly increase productivity and the ability of scientist to investigate and develop new processes.   ILS can assist in the design and implementation of such a laboratory.  In particular, ILS can assist in the integration of bio-reactor equipment, instruments, and databases into a coherent modern architecture.  Modern laboratories share the following features.

Optimizing Fermentation Processes

ILS can assist engineers and scientists reduce the variably and increase the yield of fermentation processes through the analysis of historical batch data.  ILS can review existing data and processes and provide operational recommendations that may reduce variability and increase yield.  ILS works with engineers and scientists to analyze and review process data and current operational, control and monitoring strategies.   

Analytical Separation Laboratories

ILS provides a variety of services and solutions for analytical separation laboratories, ranging from Walk-Up/Open Access based system to the automation of High Throughput applications.  Systems and solutions are designed with the user and customer of a separation in mind. Solutions are tailored toward the specific needs of the users and requirements of the customer.  For example, a walk-up HPLC separation platform for synthetic chemists requires a simple and straightforward interface while still incorporating more advanced and flexible features for separation scientists.  High throughput applications target the requirements of real-time data-analysis and requirements of maximizing productivity.  ILS can meet provides services to integrate equipment and data-analysis into a real-time, feedback system.         

Automation Solutions and Services

ILS has extensive experience implementing custom automation solutions.  Solutions range from supervisory control and monitoring applications in the process and discrete manufacturing to the design and implementation of automated laboratories.  From one-of-kind supervisory control solutions to the networking and interfacing of laboratory equipment ILS can assist meeting your needs.  

Interfacing and Database Design

ILS has developed several communication interfaces for laboratory equipment.  This includes fermenter equipment, such as B.Braun® fermenters and instruments such as YSI® analyzers.  ILS can develop interfaces for the purposes of both data collection and control.  In addition,  ILS can integrate laboratory measurement with standard databases, such as Oracle® or Microsoft SQL server®.  ILS can design and implement the database and interfaces to the databases.  The design will ensure that data is easily retrieved and presented to users in the most efficient and meaningful manner.   

Equipment, Instrument and Software Interfaces

Intelligent Laboratory Solutions can integrate a wide variety of instruments, equipment, and software into a real-time operating environments.  Integration allows for better control, monitoring and reporting of a process.  Real-time control can respond to previously off-line measurements and a database can store the data for future analysis and reporting.  In the process industries Process Analytical Technologies (PAT) has become more and more of an emphasis to increase productivity and safety.  PAT is based upon robust and reliable instrument and equipment interfaces.  ILS has developed interfaces for instruments and equipment such as YSI 2700 glucose analyzer, YSI 8500 CO2 analyzer, B.Braun bio-reactors, and Agilent HPLCs.

ILS has extensive experience developing and implementing Gensym® G2 based solutions.  This includes new projects starting with requirements gathering, design, testing and deployment to existing applications that require upgrade, maintenance and enhancement.  ILS is a partner of Gensym® and can provide both products and services.
