ChromSmart®
ChromSmart®
is designed to improve the productivity, consistency and usability of
chromatography separation processes. The system combines equipment
automation with reasoning over data. Data can include sample
property information and real-time time measurements (UV, pressure,
temperature, etc.). Based upon this data ChromSmart®
can make decisions and implement experiments. Applications include
data analysis for high-throughput environments, automation of the
method development process for analytical laboratories, and
walk-up/open-access systems for synthetic laboratory environments.
Key Features and Benefits
- Increase productivity and consistency by combining data
reasoning and equipment automation.
- Simplify interfaces for separation and reduce the burden of users.
- Integrates with existing HPLC equipment and software, including
column switchers.
- Controls method and equipment parameters, including pumps,
detectors, automatic column switchers, and thermostats.
- Automatic equipment, column, and method monitoring.
Applied Modeling
- Apply both rule-based/heuristic models and empirical/physical models
to analyze data.
- Incorporate flow sheet based decision trees for data reasoning and
equipment control.
Data Reasoning and Analysis
- In-method and post-method data analysis.
- Real-time, on-line in-method data-analysis of the chromatogram,
temperature, and pressure.
- Post-method data-analysis of experimental chromatograms by
expert-system technology recommends experimental method conditions.
- By evaluating the current and past chromatographic data, the
recommendation uses real-time expert rules to optimize the HPLC
separation and may pursue new lines of reasoning with the dynamic
planning engine.
Custom Solutions
- Add custom knowledge to the system in the form of decision trees.

- Implement specific method development strategies, sample analysis
and data reasoning.
- Add knowledge in the forms of rules-of-thumb, physical models, or
historical data analysis.
- Include in-method data analysis i.e. data analysis during an active
experiment
- Include post-method data analysis i.e. analyze data (chromatogram,
peaks, etc.) at the conclusion of an experiment.
- Custom equipment and user interfaces to multiple equipment vendors.
- The real-time dynamic planning
engine and intelligent decision tree technology within ChromSmart® can
be extended to other types of analyses such as gas spectroscopy, mass
spectroscopy, etc.
